Development of a Distributed Research Environment for Missionary Linguistics of the "Grand Voyage Era"

funded by Japan Society for the Promotion of Science JSPS Invitational Training Program for Advanced Japanese Research Institutes
(November, 2009 to March, 2010)

This program aims to enhance the international research environment of the prominent Research Institutes in the fields of science, where Japan is or will be playing a leading role, by inviting eminent scholars, as well as young researchers from abroad, promoting intensive investigation in the Research Institutes under the direction of the invited scholars.

This project invites

• Prof. Dr. Otto Zwartjes (Amsterdam University, 2007-2008 Fellow of the Netherlands Institute for Advanced Study in the Humanities and Social Sciences (NIAS, Wassenaar) of the KNAW (Royal Netherlands Academy of Arts and Sciences))
• Profra. Dra. Cristina Altman (São Paulo University, Director of the Centro de Documentação em Historiografia Linguística [CEDOCH])

and 5 young researchers, for refining linguistics principles for linguistic research resources of the "Grand Voyage Era", especially in Indian, Philippine, Latin American and Japanese "Missionary Linguistics" resources.

This project is technically assited by "GICAS" project.

大航海時代の「宣教に伴う言語学」研究のための非一極集中型研究環境の構築

本事業は、 「我が国が世界をリードし得る研究分野の先端的な研究拠点に、海外の著名研究者及び若手研究者を招へいし、 国際的に卓越した研究者の指導・監督の下に若手研究者の育成を図るとともに、 研究拠点の研究環境の一層の国際化に資することを目的に実施する」(JSPS)ものとして採択された。

本事業は、 「宣教に伴う言語学」の研究資源構築プロジェクトをそれぞれ進行中の各機関から、 最前線の若手研究者5名が集うて相互に研鑽し、 この分野を牽引する2博士

• Otto Zwartjes 博士(アムステルダム大学教授、オランダ王立アカデミー [KNAW] フェロー)
• Cristina Altman 博士(サンパウロ大学教授、言語学史料研究センター [CEDOCH]センター長)

の指導と、 本事業拠点(AA研)のCOE拠点GICASの技術支援を得て、 400前の多言語研究資源を横断的に扱うための言語学的原理の洗練、及び諸技法の実験を行い、 分散的にリソースを維持・拡張する共同研究手法を、 インド、フィリピン、中南米、日本等の諸言語の文献史料について試行する事を目指す。
